How NOT to Learn English!

Many people study English for years without making any progress. In many countries, English is studied at least for several years but still they can not read a book, speak for a few minutes or understand spoken language.

English is an easy language and almost anyone can become fluent in 6 to 12 months, so what is going wrong?!

The main reason is HOW to study. Below is a number of WRONG ways to learn any language:

Studying Grammar: many say: I hate grammar! And I do agree with them because nobody learns a language through studying grammar. Children usually speak their native language fluently before going to school and without studying any grammar! Grammar is important but what is more important is to "feel" that something is wrong and not because of this or that grammar rule. It is better to study grammar as explanation to reading (context) and not as a standalone subject.
Studying Word Lists: many ESL learners complain that they forget new words! One important reason is: they waste time studying isolated words, word lists or memorizing from dictionary. This rarely works because our brain remembers through context, so it is better to practice more and more reading, listening, writing and speaking.
Mean or End: any language is mean of communication but usually at school and in training courses, language learning becomes an end and students are taught how to answer MCQs, fill blanks and pass the final exam!

The widespread use of these wrong ways to learn a new language is a result of some myths of how to learn a language.
